Qing Dynasty Guanyin Temple Bodhisattva Statue

Qing Dynasty Guanyin Temple Bodhisattva Statue

A large temple statue of a Guanyin bodhisattva in contemplative pose, wearing a Tang style headdress, with a serene expression and heavy-lidded downcast eyes, long earlobes, double tiered beaded necklace, both feet bare, loops of beads around the knees and bracelets adorning the arms. Seated, with right arm resting on raised knee in a pose known as "royal ease"

Medium: Hand carved scented fir with traces of gesso and polychrome pigment.

Date: C1780 - 1840. Qing Dynasty. Period of the Emperor Chien Lung.

Origin: Central China.

Condition: As is typical of many surviving 19th-century temple pieces, our statue shows faded colours and wood damage, testament to its age and use in a temple setting.

Measurements: Height 1020mm, width at widest point: 650 mm, depth at deepest point 430 mm

This is an oversize item and will require a quote for delivery via a courier service. Alternatively, for a small fee we can arrange personal delivery as far north as Brisbane and as far south as Sydney. Please contact us to discuss.
