Waziri Men's Wedding Shawl - Chador
Waziri men's shawl or wedding shawl, know locally as a chador. From Northwest Frontier Pakistan/Afghanistan, formerly called Waziristan.
Hand loomed on a throw shuttle in two pieces which are then sewn together to make the body of the shawl. Dark indigo/black cotton body is combined with red silk and a stripped patterned border as contrast. Selvage borders at both ends.
Collected in NWF Pakistan by my father in the 1980's on one of his many buying trips to the region.
Early 20th century, most likely an heirloom piece used only once. Despite its vintage age, this piece is in superb condition without blemish.
Measurements: 231 x 134 cm
